Three lines, yet they leave something much larger behind: the weight of collective condemnation, followed by the gesture of those who absolve themselves simply by turning away. Perhaps that is the hardest part—not only what is done to a person, but how easily responsibility can be erased from the conscience of those who helped cause the harm.
